Niu Hanben, male, born in Huguan, Shanxi Province in Feb. 1940, research fellow, academician and doctor tutor with Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Joined CPC in April 1960; graduated from Department of Radio Electronics, Tsinghua University in 1966; began to work in Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1978; went to UK for advanced studies in Department of Physics of the Imperial College during Aug. 1979 - Nov. 1981 and carried out cooperative research and gave lectures in Common Physics Institute of former Soviet Academy of Sciences, Department of Physical Astronomy of UK University of St. Andrews, Department of Electronic Engineering of University of Maryland, USA, Nuclear Physics Research Center of University of Strasbourg, France and Optoelectronics Institute of Taiwan Xinzhu Jiaotong University, China respectively in 1987, 1988, 1991, 1992 and 1996. He has been working in national defense and military research since he began to work, mainly in optoelectronics and specializing in study of image converter ultrafast diagnosis, low-light level night vision technology and bio-medical imaging technology, etc.
In 1989 promoted to research fellow; in 1991 won governmental special allowance from the State Council; in 1992 awarded the title of national young and mid-aged expert with outstanding contributions; in 1993 appraised as doctor tutor for major of physical electronics by Academic Degree Commission of the State Council; in 1997 elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Worked as project person-in-charge all along in Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics; successfully researched and developed nine kinds of image converters and seven kinds of image converter camera for national defense and military industry, breaking through embargo by the Coordinating Committee on Export Control, meeting urgent needs of major national defense and military industries and making China leading in image converter diagnosis technology in the world; won two national invention award Class II；one Class III；one National Scientific and Technological Progress Award top-grade prize（as main participant） and two Class III；five Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Scientific and Technological Progress Award Class I and one Class II; owner of five national invention patents and one patent by former Soviet Union; published 90 theses; in 1996 appraised as Xi’an model worker; in 1997 appraised as advanced worker of Shaanxi Province and model tutor of Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.
Transferred to Shenzhen University in Sept. 1999 and established Optoelectronics Institute of Shenzhen University, mainly in research and development of image information acquisition and display, semiconductor optoelectronic materials and components and low-light electromechanical system, etc.
